2024-2025 Blended Learning Program

MSHS Blended Learning Program 24-25

We are launching a new MSHS Blended Learning Program for juniors and seniors starting in the 24-25 school year. This Blended Learning Program will be in a pilot year, and revisited each year around student success in the program. Please note that student acceptance is not a guarantee, and as student eligibility will be based on applications and committee review.

Overview:
  • This program is a blended learning option provided by Manitou Springs High School. It is a combination of online learning through an accredited program called Colorado Digital Learning Solutions, and in-person support and guidance with an MSHS teacher.

  • This program is designed to meet the needs of students who are on-track to graduate, to include credits and Graduation Guidelines as defined in the Curriculum Handbook, in their upcoming Junior and Senior years, and who are looking for an opportunity to begin work in their post-secondary pathway.

  • Students will be enrolled online in their next required Math, English, Science, and Social Studies courses. Please note that students will only be eligible to enroll in the courses listed in the MSHS Blended Learning Course Catalog. Their work study/online electives/approved internship will fulfill their elective credit requirements. Please note, no AP or CTE courses will be offered through the Blended Learning Catalog. Additionally, they will receive one credit for the required in-person time they spend at the high school.

    • This is a full course load - the same as a student attending full-time, in-person school (8 credits per semester).
    • If a student has already satisfied the core graduation requirements and their aligned ICAP for Math, Science, and/or Social Studies, then they will have the opportunity to enroll in additional online courses of their choosing from the MSHS Blended Learning Course Catalog to earn a minimum of 7 credits per semester.
  • The school/district will pay the cost of student enrollment in the online program.

  • Students may participate in extracurricular activities but may not participate in co-curricular activities such as the Newspaper, Yearbook, Band, Choir, Student Council, etc.

  • This is a year-long commitment and students must participate in the entirety of the program. If a student does not satisfy the requirements, then they will be removed from the program and will return to in person learning at MSHS. There will be consistent progress monitoring around student attendance and success in this program throughout each semester.

blended learning classes

Students are expected to attend on all Mondays - Wednesdays, including Late Start Wednesdays (attending from 10:05-12:25 pm) or delayed starts due to weather. Please note that any holidays, school cancellations, etc. do apply to all students including those in the Blended Learning Program.

Student On-Campus Time
  • Students will receive direct instruction on self-regulated learning and workplace/workforce skills.

  • Students will spend their time working on their four online core classes.

Student Off-Campus Time:
  • Option 1 - Work Study/Approved Internship Pathway

    •  Students will need to be employed in order to be part of this pathway
       - Students are responsible for securing their own job or approved internship.

        - Their employment must meet the qualifications of a typical work study program- ie.   produce pay stubs. If the student loses their job or internship, they will need to find another or will lose their place in the program.

        - Their employment must be aligned with their ICAP.

    • Their employment will serve as their elective credits for the year
       - Students must work a minimum of 180 hours per semester to meet the elective requirements.
This is a full course load - the same as a student attending full-time, in-person school (8 credits per semester).

  • Option 2 - Online Elective Pathway

    •  Students who choose this pathway must be enrolled in 3 credits of online elective courses outlined in the MSHS Blended Learning Course Catalog
    • These courses will be completed independently.
