Safety and Security
We have noticed an increase in students with passengers during lunch.
Traffic laws are confusing, especially for new drivers. Here is a reminder for anyone under the age of 18:
Teens with a permit must be accompanied by a driving instructor, parent, legal guardian or a licensed adult 21 years of age or older (authorized by parent/guardian) in the front seat, buckled up.
Teens with a license:
For the first six months, no passengers under 21, unless a parent or other licensed adult driver over 21 is in the vehicle. For the next six months, one passenger under age 21.
Medical emergencies are exceptions. At any time, no more than one passenger is allowed in the front seat.
For more information, visit the
Colorado Department of Transportation
Thank you!
Janie Anderson, Director of Security
Janie Anderson retired at the Colorado Springs Police Department after 30 years of service before joining MSSD14 in Dec 2019. While at CSPD, as an officer she served in patrol and worked temporary assignments at the training academy and the reduced auto theft unit. She also served as a training officer for new recruits in the field.
As a Sgt., she worked in Patrol, Community Relations and at the Training Academy.
As a Lt., she worked in Patrol, Investigations (overseeing Internet Crimes Against Children, Computer Crimes, Registered Sex Offenders, Pawn Detail and Financial Crimes) and prior to retiring she was the Training Director at the CSPD Training Academy.
Over the years, Janie coached basketball, baseball and softball for the MSSD younger athletes from kindergarten until middle school. She recently volunteered to help coach the C Team girls basketball team at MSHS.
Janie's main priority is focusing on process improvement to keep students and staff safe at MSSD14. She is thankful for the staff, students, parents, safety team, first responders and other community partners to help keep our community safe.

Mandy Strider, SRO (School Resource Officer)
Officer Strider has worked for the City of Manitou Springs since April of 2021. She became the School Resource Officer for the District in August of the same year. She may be the only police officer you know that is an English major. Before beginning her career in law enforcement, Officer Strider worked for nearly a decade as a grant writer for several local nonprofits, including Peak Vista Community Health Centers and Care and Share Food Bank. She also spent nearly nine years working in the medical field as a Critical Care Technician in the Pediatric/Pediatric Intensive Care units.
Officer Strider has an adorable family, including a husband, a dog, and four chickens.
